Mornington Crescent was built in the 1820s on a former greenfield site. It consisted of 36 spacious homes arranged around a communal garden, and designed for affluent professionals. The homes enjoyed views over open countryside at both the front and rear, whilst being conveniently close to Central London.
During the Victorian era the resident demographic changed, and many of the properties were split into flats. The early 1900s saw the communal gardens being built over by The Carreras Building, an art-deco building originally used as a tobacco factory. The Carreras Building, now known as Greater London House, is something of a local landmark with its distinctive architecture, and statue of an Egyptian cat.
Mornington Crescent is probably most well known for the nearby underground station, Mornington Crescent Station which shares its name.
